Black Female Muscovy Ducklings

$14.50

Black female Muscovy ducklings are quiet, calm birds raised for eggs, natural pest control, and homestead flocks. They forage for insects, weeds, and grasses throughout the day, and as adults, they tend to go broody and reliably hatch and raise their own ducklings.

  • Egg Production: 120–180 rich‑yolked eggs/year, typically in seasonal cycles with broody pauses.
  • Foraging & Pest Control: Gentle, efficient foragers that reduce insects and weeds.
  • Noise Profile: Very quiet, soft hisses and trills instead of quacking.

Known for their glossy dark plumage and distinctive red facial markings, these stunning ducks originally hail from the wetlands and riverbanks of Brazil. While commercial breeding has often favored the white variety for a more polished appearance, we are excited to bring back the natural beauty of the Black Muscovy. Black female Muscovy ducks typically have glossy, iridescent black feathers that may show hints of green or purple in certain lighting. Unlike the males, they are generally smaller and less bulky. They are known for their calm and quiet demeanor. They are less noisy than other duck breeds because they do not quack. Instead, they make a soft hissing sound or a trilling coo.

These ducklings become excellent mothers and are often broody, meaning they will sit on their eggs and raise their ducklings diligently. Muscovy ducks, including the black females, are good foragers. They eat a variety of food, including insects, weeds, grasses, and small fish, which makes them beneficial for pest control.

Black Muscovy Duck FAQs

Muscovy ducks are a popular meat breed because of their lean, flavorful meat and good carcass size.

Muscovies are much quieter than most duck breeds. They don’t quack like typical ducks; instead they make softer hissing and cooing sounds, which makes them a good choice for more sensitive neighborhoods.

With regular gentle handling, Muscovy ducks can become quite friendly and calm around people.

A typical Muscovy duck hen can lay around 60–120 eggs per year, often in large clutches. They are known for being excellent, devoted mothers.

A pond isn’t required, but they do appreciate access to water for bathing and splashing. A kiddie pool or stock tank that’s dumped and refilled regularly works well for most backyard and homestead setups.
