Khaki Campbell ducks are best known as one of the most prolific laying ducks in the world, often outperforming chickens in egg numbers. Campbells are active foragers, excellent at controlling insects, and hardy enough to adapt to a wide range of climates. Their calm, social temperament makes them a wonderful addition to both backyard flocks and small farms.

Breed Origin

The Khaki Campbell was developed in England in the late 1800s by Mrs. Adele Campbell, who crossed Indian Runners, Rouens, and Mallards to create a duck that excelled at both egg laying and hardiness. Their name comes from their khaki-colored plumage, which provides natural camouflage.

Temperament

These ducks are social and friendly, enjoying interactions with humans and other ducks. They love to forage and explore, and their gentle nature makes them great for families. These ducks are generally quiet and not prone to loud quacking, and less aggressive than some other breeds.

Khaki Campbell Duckling Care

At Shirlock Acres, we raise our breeder flocks in clean, well-ventilated barns with fresh water, bedding, and space to thrive. Your Khaki Campbell ducklings will arrive strong, healthy, and ready for their new home. For best results, we recommend starting them on a high-quality waterfowl starter feed with added niacin to support leg health and growth.

Khaki Campbell Duck FAQs

Their eggs are typically white to cream-colored. Compared to chicken eggs, they’re richer, with a larger yolk-to-white ratio, which makes them great for baking and cooking.

We ship our Khaki Campbell ducklings as day‑old birds. This helps them travel safely, and it also gives you a great start for bonding and raising them.

They don’t need a full pond, but they do need regular access to clean water deep enough to dunk their heads. A stock tank, kiddie pool, or similar setup works well as long as the water is refreshed often.

Ducklings thrive on a balanced starter feed formulated specifically for waterfowl. Ensure they have constant access to fresh water.

They can be chatty, especially the females, but they’re generally quieter than some heavier duck breeds. If you have close neighbors, they’re often a better choice than very vocal breeds.

They are quite hardy once fully feathered. With a dry, draft‑free shelter and access to unfrozen water, they do well in colder climates. Extra bedding and wind protection help them stay comfortable in winter.

Egg production: Incredible layers, often around 250–300 rich, large eggs per year.

Dual-purpose: Decent lean meat along with strong egg output.

High energy: Constant activity means they need space and enrichment to stay happy.

Temperament: Active, friendly, curious, generally good for families and small farms.

Less ideal as meat birds: Meat quality is mild but not as meaty or prized as some breeds.

Foraging/pest control: Always on the move and excellent at cleaning up bugs.

Flightiness: Their athletic, upright build can make them more nervous than heavy, calm breeds.
