These four hens are the ducklings people come back for. Female ducks are easygoing and flock-oriented, quick to learn where the food and water are, and friendly with other hens. Between Pekin, Khaki Campbell, and both Black and White Muscovy, you get a mix of egg layers, meat birds, and calm backyard companions. Whether you're starting your first flock or adding to an existing one, this lineup is a great place to begin.
Meat and Eggs
Each of these hens has a job she does well. Khaki Campbells are the layers of the group, and a good one can keep your egg basket full with up to 300 eggs a year. Pekins are right there with them, laying 125 to 225 large eggs a year before growing into hearty 7 to 9 pound birds with tender, mild meat, so one duck can cover both the breakfast table and the dinner table. Muscovies round out the lineup with lean, premium meat and large, rich eggs, with White Muscovy hens laying 120 to 200 a year. They're also known as some of the best mothers around, so a broody Muscovy hen will happily hatch and raise a batch of ducklings for you.
Temperament
This lineup is full of personality, and the good kind. Pekins are tame and docile, and they love a good chat, especially when they spot you coming with a feed scoop. Muscovies bring a calmer energy to the yard, greeting you with soft coos and hisses, and ducklings raised by hand often grow into wonderfully friendly birds. Khaki Campbells keep things lively, always curious and on the move as they hunt for bugs across the yard. Together they make an easygoing group that suits families, first-time duck keepers, and mixed flocks.

Why Choose Shirlock Acres?

NPIP-Certified Hatchery
From the moment a duckling hatches at Shirlock Acres, its health is our top priority. Because we’re an NPIP-certified hatchery, every bird is carefully monitored and tested to ensure its illness-free. When your ducklings arrive, they’ll be bright-eyed, energetic, and ready to thrive in your flock.

Nearly 20 Years of Experience
In 2007, a few ducks in the Shirk family’s backyard sparked a passion that soon grew beyond our fence line. Today, Shirlock Acres ships ducklings across the country, but our heart is still rooted in family care. Roger and Derek Shirk continue to raise every bird with the same honesty and attention they’ve always given their own. Curious how it all began? You’ll find the full story on our About Us page.

State-of-the-Art Hatchery
From the moment they hatch, our ducklings are raised in a safe, well-kept environment where every detail is watched over with care. That attention ensures the birds you receive are healthy, thriving, and eager to settle into their new home.
