Just like the White Muscovy, these sleek black ducklings come with their own unique charm. Originally found in the swamps and rivers of Brazil, Black Muscovies stand out with their striking dark feathers and vibrant red faces. Over time, commercial breeding has focused on white Muscovies for a cleaner look, but we’re thrilled to offer this classic, native color. Just like our White Muscovy, these dark-feathered beauties are fantastic for meat.
In fact, Muscovy ducks are a favorite in France, where over half of the ducks consumed are Muscovy. You’ll also find them on the menu at many top restaurants in the U.S. The Black Muscovy offers leaner meat than Pekin ducks, with males boasting impressively large, almost beefy breasts often served rare. Plus, they’re a popular choice for meat in the Middle East, Central America, and South America. With its rich flavor and tender texture, the Black Muscovy is a great addition for anyone looking to elevate their culinary game.

Happy with the quality of the ducks but unfortunately we ended up with 6 males to 2 females. We were sent an extra which was awesome, though it did die shortly after we received it. Of what survived of the order, 2/4 white ones were female and 4/4 of the black ones were male(we ordered 5, but received a white one instead, which was fine).
These ducks are fun to have but can be difficult! We free range ours and they have a large coop, but it has been a difficult past month or two with very excessive plucking each other to the point where we had to slather them in tar and antibiotic spray and pray they didn’t die anyway from bleeding or infection. Could not leave them locked up even for an extra hour or they would nearly kill each other, and forget about leaving them in the coop for a weekend away. The high ratio of males we received seems to be the problem since they are both the aggressors and victims of the plucking.

Please be aware of what STRAIGHT RUN really means!
When I ordered Muscovy ducklings from here for the first time this year, I ordered Straight Run instead of either Male or Female. I was under the impression that Straight Run would be somewhere around 50% give or take. I was not aware that I would be getting whatever was left over that day after all the other orders were filled.
I ordered 7 straight run black Muscovy and 7 straight run white Muscovy, for a total of 14. I ended up with 2 white Female Muscovy out of 14 ordered. This was very frustrating to go through all the work of raising them and feeding them and only having 2 Females to keep for starting a small flock.
If you want more Females, DO NOT ORDER STRAIGHT RUN!!! Order how many Females you actually want!!!
These are really nice looking birds, just not what I was expecting for ratio!
