White Muscovy Ducks have predominantly white feathers, though some may have dark spots on the head or body as well. While wild Muscovies are usually black, white Muscovies are bred for their pure white color. These ducks have a sturdy, robust body shape, and are generally more solid than most other duck breeds. The males are larger, and have more pronounced red caruncles (wattles).
White Muscovy Duck meat is 98% lean, making it a healthier choice when compared to other duck breeds. It is lean, mild, and sought after by health-conscious consumers. Muscovy duck meat is considered premium and often sold at higher prices. Though these ducks are not considered prolific egg layers in comparison to other duck breeds, they can usually yield 120-200 eggs per year. Their eggs are large and nutritious, great for eating or hatching.
These ducks are known for their relaxed, passive nature, and rarely show aggression towards people or other animals. This makes them suitable for families and mixed flocks. White Muscovy ducks do not quack; instead, they make soft cooing or hissing sounds. These ducks are often described as friendly and approachable, and can be quite tame, especially if they were raised from ducklings. They prefer calm environments and can adapt well to backyard environments.
From the moment a duckling hatches at Shirlock Acres, its health is our top priority. Because we’re an NPIP-certified hatchery, every bird is carefully monitored and tested to ensure its illness-free. When your ducklings arrive, they’ll be bright-eyed, energetic, and ready to thrive in your flock.
In 2007, a few ducks in the Shirk family’s backyard sparked a passion that soon grew beyond our fence line. Today, Shirlock Acres ships ducklings across the country, but our heart is still rooted in family care. Roger and Derek Shirk continue to raise every bird with the same honesty and attention they’ve always given their own. Curious how it all began? You’ll find the full story on our About Us page.
From the moment they hatch, our ducklings are raised in a safe, well-kept environment where every detail is watched over with care. That attention ensures the birds you receive are healthy, thriving, and eager to settle into their new home.
