White female Muscovy ducklings are a domesticated color line of Cairina moschata, bred for their pure white plumage and calm, friendly nature. Females grow to about 6-7 pounds with lighter facial caruncles and a tidy, refined build, making them elegant additions to any backyard flock. Unlike quacking mallard-type ducks, Muscovies communicate with soft trills, coos, and hisses—pleasantly quiet around the homestead.
Female Muscovies typically begin laying eggs at approximately 25 weeks of age, or around six months old. They will continue to lay eggs for about 3 years or even longer if they’re fed the right diet. To ensure that you get quality Muscovy eggs and ducklings, make sure to feed your ducks a good diet.
Domestic Female Muscovy Ducks usually have yellow legs, pink bills, and pale eyes. The female Muscovy duck’s tail is more pointed than that of a male.
White Female Muscovy Duck FAQs
Female Muscovies are known for being very quiet. Instead of loud quacks, they make soft trills, coos, and light hissing sounds. For noise‑sensitive areas or close neighbors, they’re one of the best duck options.
Most females lay well for around 3 years, sometimes longer if they’re fed well and kept healthy. Production will slowly taper as they age.
Yes. They are known as steady brooders and attentive mothers. Many hens will go broody, sit faithfully, and raise ducklings with strong protective instincts.
A pond isn’t required. They’ll happily use kiddie pools, stock tanks, or large tubs as long as they can dunk their heads and bathe. Clean, fresh water is essential either way.
They’re a great dual‑purpose option:
- For meat, they provide a smaller, lean carcass compared to drakes, which works well for smaller households or lighter meals.
- For eggs, they give a solid 120–200 large eggs per year.

Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Premium meat: 98% lean, mild, and sells at higher prices. | Egg output is decent, but not in “egg machine” territory. |
Good dual-purpose birds: solid meat plus 120–200 large, nutritious eggs/year. | Red caruncles and hissing can seem odd or intimidating to some. |
Calm, friendly, rarely aggressive; great for families and mixed flocks. | Strong broody instinct can slow egg production if you don’t want constant hatching. |
Super quiet: no quacking, just soft coos/hisses. | Big bodies = more feed and space than light laying breeds. |
