Black male Muscovy ducks are known to be quieter than other domestic ducks. They do not quack like typical ducks but instead hiss or make soft cooing sounds. Muscovy ducks can breed multiple times a year, depending on the climate. Males often display aggressive or dominant behaviors during this time to attract females. All black male Muscovy ducks are shipped as ducklings.
Meat Production
The meat is often described as having a taste closer to red meat, such as beef, making it a popular choice for those who prefer a less fatty option. The unique flavor and texture of Muscovy duck meat make it a sought-after ingredient in gourmet cooking and high-end restaurants.
Black Muscovy Duck FAQs
Muscovy ducks are a popular meat breed because of their lean, flavorful meat and good carcass size.
Muscovies are much quieter than most duck breeds. They don’t quack like typical ducks; instead they make softer hissing and cooing sounds, which makes them a good choice for more sensitive neighborhoods.
With regular gentle handling, Muscovy ducks can become quite friendly and calm around people.
A typical Muscovy duck hen can lay around 60–120 eggs per year, often in large clutches. They are known for being excellent, devoted mothers.
A pond isn’t required, but they do appreciate access to water for bathing and splashing. A kiddie pool or stock tank that’s dumped and refilled regularly works well for most backyard and homestead setups.
