Duck Maintenance Feed FAQs

Most flocks move onto Maintenance Feed once ducks are fully grown and close to or already laying (commonly around 16–20 weeks, depending on breed and purpose). If you’ve been using Duck Grower Feed, transition over 5–7 days by gradually mixing more Maintenance Feed and less Grower Feed.

Store any Shirlock Acres duck feed in a cool, dry place. Keep bags sealed or pour into a lidded bin to protect against moisture, pests, and spoilage. Rotate bags so you use older feed first and maintain freshness.

If they are only eating crumble/pellet feed and water, they may not need extra grit. Once they have access to pasture, kitchen scraps, or whole grains, offer an appropriate size of poultry grit to help them grind and digest those extras.

You can lightly moisten or ferment feed if you prefer, but only prepare what ducks will finish in a few hours. Discard leftovers so you don’t end up with spoiled or moldy feed in the feeder.
